Over time, this leads to a build-up of microbes on the product, which increases the risk of urinary and reproductive tract infections. This negatively impacts health and wellbeing, whilst also leading to missed education and work opportunities, perpetuating a cycle of disadvantage across generations and cultures.
Introducing SunPad
A washable period pad with self-sanitising technology.
SunPad contains a mineral-based coating. When dried in the sun, the coating produces a self-sanitising effect. In just a few hours, over 99.9% of microbes are eliminated from the pad. Thanks to the power of photocatalysis, SunPad also eliminates odours and stains.
Unlike other antibacterial products, SunPad is inert when worn. This makes SunPad non-irritating and safe to wear. Since SunPad is made from cotton, the pads remain breathable and comfortable. As it can be used again and again, SunPad saves money whilst reducing waste.

SunPad’s mineral coating contains a material known as a photocatalyst. Whilst being dried in the sun, these photocatalysts transform water and air into free radicals. These radicals rapidly eliminate microbes whilst breaking down stains and odours. Since photocatalysts are reusable and the three ingredients—water, air, and sunlight—are abundant, SunPad is designed for universal use, accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world.

SunPad is currently underdevelopment whilst it undergoes testing in Nepal. If your questions aren’t answered below, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
The coating of SunPad is designed to maintain antimicrobial effectiveness for up to 60 washes. After this period, the product may become less effective.
We recommend you wash SunPad by hand to keep it working its best. We recommend soaking SunPad for a couple of hours and then gently rinsing with water. Avoid detergents and vigorous scrubbing, as this will negatively affect the coating. After fully drying in the sun, store SunPad in a clean and dry place before you use it again.
The drying time for SunPad can vary depending on environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature. We recommend that you dry SunPad outdoors in direct sunlight for a minimum of 4 hours, for optimal drying and self-sanitising effects. The removable absorbent layer of SunPad should be unfolded to decrease drying time.
SunPad is currently undergoing rigorous testing according to ISO10993 standards for cytotoxicity, irritation, and sensitisation. These tests are used to evaluate medical devices and will confirm SunPad is safe to use.

The coating contains a photocatalyst which is mostly comprised of titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide, also known as CI 77891, is found in thousands of everyday products, including toothpaste, medicines and cosmetics. The photocatalyst also contains traces of other metals found in common household products. SunPad is free from PFAS, phthalates and dioxins.
SunPad has been rigorously tested against a range of microorganisms that can cause infections. Some examples include bacteria (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa), viruses (norovirus, HIV) and yeast (Candida albicans). SunPad remains effective even in the presence of blood residues, which may remain on the pad after washing.
